Short version:
I saved the world today
losing my religion:
head over feet, fearless,
bleeding love.
Extended version:
I saved the world today
riding the subway train to work,
feeling ordinary as minions,
holding onto handrails.
Book in hand, I didn’t scream
in that packed train, when men
with haversacks shoved roughshod.
Only, my new mechanical pencil fallen
off, in that human shuffle. Sob!
I went to church on Palm Sunday.
Easter this weekend means eggs
in a pretty polly basket, and really,
‘hope’ in capital letters.
O, what other happy thought can
possibly steal into all our hearts
in the final hour? Without hope,
only despair over nothingness!
I think I’m so not losing my religion.
It’s true, it’s true.
I was in such jolly spirits today.
Could it be good vibes on an April Fool’s Day?
The big boss bounced through the door,
turned to me, standing off by the side,
good morning! Smiles!
I officially exist, now that’s a big deal.
Everyone else was so cheery,
it’s like bouncing Tigger day!
Except one body, drowning in the blues,
like melancholy was so melodramatic.
Let me in, I’m your sunshine.
Look at me, I’m still head over feet,
fearless, bleeding love, but really,
not hurting anymore.
Now everybody’s happy. The bad thing’s gone away.
Process notes: My post for napowrimo #1: shuffle a poem. The song titles shuffled are Eurythmics’ “I saved the world today”, R.E.M.’s “Losing my religion”, Alanis Morissette’s “Head over feet”, Taylor Swift’s “Fearless” and Leona Lewis’ “Bleeding love.” The last line in the extended version is from “I saved the world today”. Read Write Poem’s prompt here.
Just warming up I think.
