Napowrimo cancels all workday outings

Going to watch “The Tempest” on Thursday.
Is that the one by Sam Mendes?
Yup Kate Winslet’s husband. Now separated.
Where’s it showing?
Esplanade.
Tell me how it is after you’ve watched.
Why don’t you join us? I’ll quick go book online to add you.
Oh no! I can’t. I need to go home and write a poem.

Poem mad equals me.

“We are such stuff
As dreams are made on,
and our little life
Is rounded with a sleep…”
The Tempest, Act Four Scene 1

(Oh look! I wrote an Ariel poem yesterday.)

half longings

Napowrimo #5: Make your poetry personal. Give poetry — how you view poetry, what poetry means to you, your poetry — a name. Now write a poem suits your view or vision.Read Write Poem prompt here.

Poem becomes half fish,
a mermaid washed ashore.
It brings sea to land.

Sea-shells cover my breasts,
a sail forms my floaty skirt,
hasty words improvise.

I collect human artifacts,
being not of this world,
but yearning to be.

I will save you,
fall in love with you,
even let myself drown.

My voice trapped in a
shell. You must kiss me
to break the spell.

Drink potion of the sea.
Then my fishy tail will
turn into human legs.

I am not of this world.
My hair is flaming red,
My scales are turquoise.

Poem has a name.
My name is Ariel.

music & love

Short version:

I saved the world today
losing my religion:
head over feet, fearless,
bleeding love.

Extended version:

I saved the world today
riding the subway train to work,
feeling ordinary as minions,
holding onto handrails.
Book in hand, I didn’t scream
in that packed train, when men
with haversacks shoved roughshod.
Only, my new mechanical pencil fallen
off, in that human shuffle. Sob!

I went to church on Palm Sunday.
Easter this weekend means eggs
in a pretty polly basket, and really,
‘hope’ in capital letters.
O, what other happy thought can
possibly steal into all our hearts
in the final hour? Without hope,
only despair over nothingness!
I think I’m so not losing my religion.

It’s true, it’s true.
I was in such jolly spirits today.
Could it be good vibes on an April Fool’s Day?
The big boss bounced through the door,
turned to me, standing off by the side,
good morning! Smiles!
I officially exist, now that’s a big deal.
Everyone else was so cheery,
it’s like bouncing Tigger day!
Except one body, drowning in the blues,
like melancholy was so melodramatic.

Let me in, I’m your sunshine.
Look at me, I’m still head over feet,
fearless, bleeding love, but really,
not hurting anymore.

Now everybody’s happy. The bad thing’s gone away.

Process notes: My post for napowrimo #1: shuffle a poem. The song titles shuffled are Eurythmics’ “I saved the world today”, R.E.M.’s “Losing my religion”, Alanis Morissette’s “Head over feet”, Taylor Swift’s “Fearless” and Leona Lewis’ “Bleeding love.” The last line in the extended version is from “I saved the world today”. Just warming up I think.
