This is a poetry blog. Mainly.

It is where I write poetry, ie. try and translate observations into the form of verse.

I’m too lazy to write long stories. Thus poetry suits me. I’m happy to share with the world my poetic adventures.

You know, in the film by Sofia Coppola, Lost in Translation, there’s a feeling of being adrift, something inexpressibly meaningless, alienation in a foreign land, of loneliness, and how the two protagonists connected through words and not-words. I think poems are a bit like that, the relationship of connection between the writer and the reader. Whatever, the film inspired the title of my blog. (There’s a poem I wrote about the film in the sidebar.)

Dickens, it’s not about translating foreign language poetry into English. I’m not that kind of translator.

But there is a language translator in another film, Everything is Illuminated, and not only linguistic adventures, poems are a form of translation of meanings into language and that sort of quest is what I’m most interested in. The translator in the film, Alexander Perchov, says he wants to write a book about a quest “in case anyone comes searching.” In poems, I translate psychological landscapes into language because we’re all searching, aren’t we? Dear reader, thank you for reading my poems, because while the act of writing is solitary, the purpose of writing is to alleviate our sense of solitude, is supposed to be meaningful to others other than one’s own self. Happiness is found in human connections.
